Galician — the daily newspaper of the Russophile orientation in Lviv, published in the years 1893-1913. The newspaper was published five times a week and cost 20 gellers at retail, the annual subscription cost 28 Austrian crowns. The editorial office was located at street Lahaska, 13. Osip Markov was the editor of GALICHANIN for many years. Until 1893, the newspaper was published under other names: ”New Break” (1883-1887), ”Chervonaya Rus” (1888-1891), ”Galician Rus” (1891-1892). The number consisted of four pages, the first page, less often the second is usually occupied by large articles covering a particular burning issue. On the second and third page in the form of columns with the names of ”new items”, ”stuff”, etc. short messages on these or those events of life of the region, Austria-Hungary were placed, there was also a column of the international news, letters of readers were sometimes printed. The last page was dedicated to advertisements, in addition, there were periodically printed works of art. ”Russian Galician” consistently defended the line of the Russian people's party, voiced by Osip Monchalovsky, which proceeded from the position of the unity of the Russian people (that is, the Eastern Slavs, the heirs of Kievan Rus) in all its ethnographic branches. From similar positions ”GALICHANIN” often and sharply polemized with Lviv ”Business”, the Central body of the Ukrainian party of Galicia, covered life of the Russophile organizations. In addition, a prominent place was occupied on the pages of ”Galician” Polish question” . Sharply Russian ”Polish chauvinism” against the ”Russian population of Galicia” was condemned, demands were made for a wider representation of Rusyns in the administration, the full equation of the Russian language with Polish (”Russian” on the pages of ”Galician” was called as the Russian literary language, and the Carpathian-Ukrainian dialects). The newspaper was printed in civil script in the first few years, but under the influence of ”novokursnikov” goes to the Russian literary language with a number of characteristic Ukrainian and/or specific Galician features, both in spelling and vocabulary. Thus, the ending of verbs was written in the form of ”ti”, not ”ti”, used a number of official Ukrainian words (”Yak, majzhe, scho” instead of ”how, almost, that”), as well as some words, partly Ukrainian, partly borrowed from Polish and German, denoting familiar to readers objects and concepts — Kava, Druk, crook, Hrun, fahovy, etc.
