Anticemitica. Itzig Feitel Stern. Gedichten, parabelen en sjnoekes, of poetische paarlensnoer voor de Kalle. Amsterdam: H. Moolenijzer, 1834. German and some Yiddish.

Condition: wear soiling and rubbing to cover and spine; brown stains to front endpaper and title page.
couple of small stains inside; yellow /light brown paper to plates.
Itzig Feitel Stern was the pen name of the Christian author Heinrich Holzschuher, with which he signed a number of anti-Semitic works. His books contained dialogs, stories and poems written in flawed German, with the aim of imitating and ridiculing Jewish speech.
Johann Heinrich Christoph Holzschuher (born February 11, 1798 in Wunsiedel, Upper Franconia; died December 30, 1847 in Bug Castle, district of Hof/Saale) was a social worker and hymn writer.
Heinrich Holzschuher was suspected, especially in the 19th century, of having published anti-Jewish poetry and writings, mostly in Yiddish dialect, under the pseudonym Itzig Feitel Stern. Referring to an essay by the Erlangen librarian and archivist Ludwig Göhring from 1928, the majority of the opinion prevailed that the Franconian district judge Johann Friedrich Sigmund Freiherr von Holzschuher (1796–1861) was behind the pseudonym.[7] On the other hand, a linguistic-historical study of Jewish dialect poetry by non-Jews in Franconia from 2008 came to the conclusion that "of all the people named in the past and present who may have written at least some of the writings published under 'Itzig Feitel Stern', Heinrich Holzschuher the most tangible and most probable (is).”[8] In the summary, however, the study restricts that Heinrich Holzschuher can probably only be considered as the author of the early texts of Itzig Feitel Stern, which were printed in Munich and Augsburg. It is possible that the texts published in Meissen from 1831, in particular the Schabbes-Gärtle, come from a third author, because Baron von Holzschuher could at most “for some texts published between 1850 and 1860, which were also published under the pseudonym 'Itzig Feitel Stern' appeared to be held responsible."[9]
In addition to other writings by Itzig Feitel Stern, F. W. Goedsche published Die Linke Massematten der Houchlaubliche Jüdenschaft (1833) in Meissen, “a pamphlet that was downright frightening for its time.”[10] However, this pamphlet in particular refutes the possibility of a third person being considered. The author Itzig Feitel Stern follows Hartwig von Hundt-Radowsky in two places and mentions two of his own “little works”, as he calls them, the Lauberhüttenkränz and the Schabbes-Gärtle. In particular, he quotes from a writing by the Plassenburg police commissioner Stuhlmüller. In addition, he goes into the Jewish missionaries Monheimer from Feuchtwangen and Pauli in Amsterdam, both historically verifiable people. Karl Heinrich Monheimer was imprisoned several times at the Plassenburg. A speech by C.W.H. Pauli claims to have visited Stern in Amsterdam "three years ago". According to Elisabeth Jäger, Heinrich Holzschuher actually got to Amsterdam via the Lower Rhine during a journey lasting several months, during which he collected subscribers for the harp sounds and the Volks-Spiegel for the benefit of the Erfurt Martinsstift. In addition, a largely translated work by Itzig Feitel Stern was published in Amsterdam.[11] A longer comment about the "robber and robber-murderer Itzig David Silbermann" can be found verbatim in Holzschuher's case history at the end of Itzig David Silbermann in the Volks-Spiegel of 1829. Finally, the expose Linke Massematten closes with the rhyming slogan printed in italics: “If the Jew comes into the house, happiness and blessings go out”, which is found identically in the early piece Itzigs Liebschaft by Itzig Feitel Stern, printed in Augsburg in 1827.[12 ]
In 1835 Goedsche brought Itzig Feitel Stern's last writing to the book market, Die Schabbes-Lamp vun pollische Messing. In the same year, Holzschuher lost his job in the Lichtenau prison. As he wrote, because of earthly wickedness and power.[13] Previously, on July 27, 1835, the Allgemeineanzeiger and national newspaper of the Germans published an anonymous, scathing criticism of the “filthiness” of the writings written in “Jewish German”, which would deeply offend “every moral feeling” and “whose authors Itzig Feitel star names". An editorial postscript agreed with the criticism and found: “It does not only do the censors who allow such shameless and immoral concoctions to be printed no honor, but they are guilty of the crime of demoralizing the people […] in a culpable way .”[14]
Moritz Gottlieb Saphir, who in Munich was repeatedly subjected to the anti-Jewish mockery of Stern/Holzschuher, took revenge in Der Humorist, the magazine he edited: “Goedsche in Meissen! The immortal publisher of the great Izig Veitl Stern! [...] to whom Guttenberg's ghost came, at midnight, and said to him: 'Get up at this hour and print every piece of trash
