Sefer Or Yisrael - Kabbalistic book that was suspected of Sabbateanism - Frankfurt an der Oder 1702 - first edition - with the rare leaf with the approbation by the author of the Semichat Chachamim

Illustrated title page.

The author of the book is the Kabbalist Rabbi Yisroel ben Rabbi Aharon Yoffe Av Beis Din and Ra of Shklow.

The first part of the book, until leaf 76, contains a commentary on Ma'amrei HaZohar. The second part contains a Kabbalistic commentary on the entire Simanim of the Shulchan Aruch.

The book and its author were accused by the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Emden of Sabbateanism due to some things that appear in the book. In 1774, the author's grandson published an additional Kabbalistic book by his grandfather titled Tiferet Yisroel. In it, he claimed that his father's manuscripts were manipulated by varied printers and they were the ones who added things to the book that his grandfather had never even thought of.

The book Chemdat Yamim, which is a well-known Sabbatian book, copied complete passages from this one.

Printed at the beginning of the book are many approbations by Gedolei Hador. This copy contains leaf 7, a rare leaf that was not included in most copies containing the enthusiastic approbation of the holy Gaon Rabbi Naftali Katz the author of the Semichat Chachamim. According to this leaf, the approbation reached the author only after the book was printed and therefore it was not included in all of its copies.
