Glosses signed by Tunisian Sages on Shu”t Kol Eliyahu, section one. Leghorn, [1794]

Shu”t Kol Eliyahu written by Rabbi Eliyahu Yisrael av”d Alexandria and Rhodes, many marginal glosses in the hand and with the signature of Tunisian sages.

Most of the glosses were written and signed by Rabbi Eliyahu Abrahemi and a few other are signed הדגן – Rabbi Dovid ג'אוי.

Rabbi Eliyahu Abrahemi (d. 1912) was the rabbi of Nabeul for 24 years. He authored the Nadar Eliyahu on Tractate Nedarim that was never printed. In the Chen Tov (Djerba, 1946), in the biography of the author, (p. 12) it says that he was extraordinarily well-versed in Torah, had pure yiras Hashem and taught many prominent disciples who served as Tunisian sages. He passed away in the epidemic of 1912 and the epidemic ceased immediately.( Malchei Tarshis, p. 103)

Kabbalist Rabbi Dovid ג'איו(d. prior to 1906) was a sage of Gabès and Tunis. He was a close disciple of Rabbi Avraham Kohen Yitzchaki, author of Mishmarot Kehunah. He moved to Eretz Yisrael where he passed away. Many of his glosses were printed without mention of his name in his teacher’s work,   Kaf HaKohen, Leghorn, 1865 (Refer to the introduction to Ginzei Shalom, Tunis 1915). In his glosses on the Meinei Hayeshuah (Tunis, 1915), he also signs with initials הדג"ן. ( Malchei Tarshis p. 136-137).

Shu”t Kol Eliyahu section one, Leghorn [1792], without title page. Some of the glosses are slightly cropped in the margins. The first and last pages have tears and blemishes. Worming holes. New, half-leather binding with rubbed spine.
