רבי יחיאל יעקב וינברג (תרמ"ד - תשכ"ו), מגדולי הדור, גאון ופוסק נודע, מגדולי תלמידי "הסבא מסלבודקה", ורבי נפתלי אמסטרדם. היה גם תלמיד קרוב של ר' חיים עוזר גרודז'ינסקי. עמד בראש בית המדרש לרבנים בברלין. את חידושי תורתו פרסם בשו"ת 'שרידי אש'. במהלך השואה גורש לפולין, שהה תקופה בגטו וורשא, שם כיהן כנשיא אגודת הרבנים. נשלח למחנה עבודה ושרד את השואה. לאחר המלחמה הגיע למונטריי שבשווייץ, שם עמד בראשות הישיבה עד פטירתו.
