Collection of Dozens of Manuscripts and Printed Leaves. Algeria-Jerusalem, 1940-1970
Complete archive [approximately 200 leaves] with Torah and historic content from the archive of Chacham Moshe Zanu, an Algerian sage. Most are handwritten in Oriental/Western script. Some are in his hand, with his signature and rabbinic stamp, and some were sent to him from various prominent people. Algeria/Jerusalem, C. 1940-1970.
The archive includes Torah novellae, hymns and prayers, family letters and a few printed leaflets. The Torah novellae include booklets and single leaves, with sermons for the weekly Torah portions, eulogies, laws of ritual slaughter and more. The hymns and prayers include a prayer for the "welfare of the State of Israel." The family letters include a letter from Chacham Moshe Zanu's brother, Rabbi Yichyeh Zanu. Rabbi Yichyeh Zanu had already ascended to the Land. He wrote to his brother Chacham Moshe, who was still living in Algeria.
Chacham Moshe Zanu [1900-1972] was a rabbi and darshan, an Algerian sage. He was born in Wahrān (Algeria) to Rabbi Massoud Zanu.
