HaTzfira - Special Issue - Fifty Years Since its Founding. Warsaw, 1912
A special issue of the Hebrew newspaper "HaTzfira" - edited by Chaim Zelig Slonimsky, with a summary of fifty years of circulation [Jubilee of HaTzfira]. Warsaw, 1912.
The issue is divided into two sections: articles from the various writers summarizing fifty years of activity [among them: Y. Nissenbaum, N. Sokolov, Bialik and others]. There are also pictures of the different writers, with one picture of each writer in his youth and another one from his older days. The second part of the issue reviews "The celebrations of Hatzfira's jubilee which were celebrated in the Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw on Wednesday, 1 Adar 5672 [February 19, 2012]". This section contains a vivid description of the jubilee celebrations, including a review of the preparations for the event, purchase of the tickets, gathering of the members, the opening speech, a transcription of the various speakers, letters of congratulation and support on the occasion of the newspaper's jubilee celebrations from various people, a joint photograph of all of the writers, and more. The issue from the newspaper's first year, which was published in Adar 1862 was enclosed at the end of the special issue.
"Hatzfira" - the first Hebrew newspaper in Poland during the time of Russian rule, and one of the most important Hebrew newspapers printed in Eastern Europe. Founded in Warsaw in 1962, but the events of the time - the Polish Uprising of 1863 and the appointment of the newspaper's editor, Slonimsky, as overseer of the Beit Midrash L'Rabbanim in Zhitomir, led to cessation of printing of the newspaper after half a year and only 25 issues. Slonimsky succeeded in renewing "Hatzfira" in 1874 in Berlin, the newspaper returned to Warsaw a year later, where it remained for as long as it existed.
