Pin - The 'Wizo' Babies House. Circa 1940's
An unknown cloth pin of the 'Babies House' of the WIZO women's organization, Jerusalem. On the front is a relief of a baby and the words 'Beit Hatinokot Wizo Jerusalem'. Circa 1940's.
WIZO, an acronym of Women's International Zionist Organization is an organization of Jewish women in Israel and worldwide. It was founded on July 11, 1920 by a group of Jewish women in Manchester, Great Britain. There were two processes which led to its establishment: awakening of the Zionist movement following the Balfour Declaration, and awakening of political-social activity of women in Great Britain and Ireland. This pin appears to have been produced in the 1940's, as it was in these years that the organization expanded its activities to aiding pregnant women and young mothers. It was in those years that the WIZO Baby Houses and day cares were founded. After the State of Israel was established, the organization concentrated its efforts to aiding new immigrants, soldiers in the IDF, bereaved families, worked with non-Jewish populations and helped the elderly.
Diameter: 4 cm.
Fine condition.
