Interesting Letter Regarding Baking Matzot by Rabbi Avraham Sofer , Av Beit Din of Corfu

Important letter on a postcard, written and signed by Rabbi Avraham Sofer regarding baking matzot. The letter is addressed to Rabbi Yoel Pollack, his in-law, who he calls "my in-law, who I love like my soul ... who brings merit to many" and he informs him that he tried baking matzot for him with all necessary precautions.

"Today I baked matzot and I baked ... 2 "rotls" with all precautions ... and my in-law should consider how these matzot will reach his house, please write to my household where and to whom we should give them." The letter was written hastily on the eve of Shabbat and concludes with the words: "since Shabbat is soon coming, I am writing quickly and I remain with true love and much respect ... Avraham Sofer." He added the words "The matzot are in my house" in the margins.

Rabbi Avraham Sofer Schreiber [1897-1982] was born in Erloi, Hungary. He was the son of Rabbi Shimon Sofer and a great-grandson of the Chatam Sofer. In his youth, he studied in Pressburg. After his marriage in 1921, he moved to Vienna. He served as rabbi, first in Corfu and then in Gorizia, Italy. While he was in Italy, he studied ancient manuscripts and published books of the Early scholars and previously unpublished works of his grandfather. In 1939, he immigrated to Palestine and settled in Jerusalem where he served as teacher in Yeshivat Shaarei Tzion. In 1946, he served as the head of the Rabbincal Study Hall that was established in France after the Second World War.
